A recent report from Diario AS has highlighted Barcelona’s dilemma in regard to the future of two of their attacking players in Ousmane Dembele and Raphinha.
While Xavi has reserved his faith in Dembele, there is much deliberation on whether Raphinha should continue at Camp Nou beyond 2023. Xavi, for his faith, is satisfied with the Brazilian’s performances, but in a summer where the club are trying hard to generate revenue, the player could be sacrificed.
The report suggests Raphinha is open to leaving Barcelona if he receives a good proposal from England. This comes against the backdrop of his agent Deco trying to convince him to return to the Premier League, in an attempt to revive his career.
Barcelona are aware of Raphinha’s clout in England, thanks to his extremely successful spell at Leeds United. It appears the player himself is willing to return to England, with various clubs across the Premier League interested in his services.
It must be noted that Deco’s uncertain future as a player agent could play a key role in dictating Raphinha’s sale. The former midfielder is reportedly in talks with Barça over becoming the club’s new sporting director, replacing Mateu Alemany.
Should Deco become the sporting director, Raphinha might have to leave, so that there is no question of him potentially favouring his client. The Brazilian’s exit from Camp Nou, therefore, seems quite likely.
It is now up to Barcelona to talk to potential suitors. As mentioned earlier, the club are aware of the player’s clout in England and would want to hold out for a higher valuation, in an attempt to recoup the amount they had spent on the player last summer.
Anything around the €60 million mark could prove to be beneficial for Barça, as they look to generate fresh funds and reduce the salary mass, in an attempt to sign new players ahead of the new season.
